A generator set is a self-contained power solution that generates electricity in areas without access to the power grid, or serves as a backup system during a power outage. Unlike a simple generator (which is just the alternator), a generator set is the complete unit: internal combustion engine, alternator, cooling system, fuel tank, control panel, and protective devices.
Their function is to ensure a continuous and stable power supply, both for permanent use (industry, critical facilities) and for emergency use (residences, businesses, hospitals). Models with automatic transfer switches (ATS) detect a power outage, start up automatically, and maintain power until the mains supply is restored. What is the difference between a power set and a generator?
The electric generator is simply the component that converts mechanical energy into electrical energy (the alternator). A generator set is the complete unit: internal combustion engine, alternator, cooling system, fuel tank, control panel, and protective devices. In practice, a generator set is a ready-to-use solution.
How much power do I need for my home or business?
Add up the power consumption of the equipment that will be running at the same time and include a 20–30% margin for startup peaks. As a general guideline, a residential home typically requires 10–14 kVA, and a business or workshop requires 20–27 kVA. Construction sites and industrial facilities require higher power ratings.
What does 1,500 RPM mean, and why is it better?
It indicates that the motor runs at a lower speed than those operating at 3,000 RPM. This translates to less vibration and wear, a longer service life, lower fuel consumption, and less noise. It is the professional choice for continuous or intensive use.
What is Automatic Start-Stop (ATS)?
This system detects a power outage, automatically starts the generator set, and shuts it down when power is restored. The GDS units are ATS-ready, but the transfer switch must be purchased separately depending on the model (from 63A to 630A).
Are they noisy?
GDS models are soundproofed (enclosed), with a noise level of approximately 60–75 dB at 7 meters, depending on the model and load: suitable for environments where noise is regulated.
What kind of maintenance do they need?
Simple routine maintenance: oil changes based on operating hours, filter inspection and cleaning, general cleaning, and start-up tests. The GDS design provides easy access to the engine to reduce maintenance time.
