How much does a portable panel actually produce per day?

The 200 W listed on the label is measured in a lab, at noon, and perpendicular to the sun. What actually powers the station is the energy from the entire day in watt-hours, and that depends on the season, how you orient it, and any shadows. This is the math that no one explains to you in the store.

Estimate: power × typical peak sunlight hours in Spain (4–5 in summer, 2–3 in winter) with the panel facing the sun and in full sunlight, minus charger losses. These are not catalog specifications or a guarantee: a flat panel on the ground or in cloudy conditions produces significantly less. This estimate is intended to help you choose the right size.

Which motherboard is compatible with each workstation?

Each station's solar input has a maximum power and voltage. If the voltage is too high, the station won't charge (or it will shut down); if the power is too low, it takes longer but it still works.

How long does a portable solar panel last?

Monocrystalline cells lose about 0.5% of their output per year: after ten years, a well-maintained panel still delivers more than 90% of its original output. It’s not the sun that shortens its lifespan—it’s how you treat it: fold it when dry, don’t bend it where it isn’t meant to be bent, and don’t leave it out in the rain with the connectors exposed. The specific warranty for each model is listed in its product specifications.

What are the best portable solar panels?

Those that fit into your station’s solar input and recharge in one day what you use in one night. For stations up to 500 Wh, a 100 W panel; for 1–2 kWh, 200 W; for 3–5 kWh, 300 W or several panels in series. Check the station’s input voltage (V) and power (W) before looking at the brand on the nameplate. If you’re looking for the station, it’s a portable solar generator; if you’re looking for the battery alone, it’s a solar battery.

What portable solar panel do I need for my station?

GZE-0206 and 0506: SUN100 or SUN200 (the SUN300 has 41 V and exceeds its 35 V input limit). 1 to 2.2 kWh stations: any of the three. 3 kWh stations and PRO-S: SUN300, or multiple units in series up to the maximum input rating of the connector; PRO-S stations support up to 7 SUN200s or 4 SUN300s in series. Kits with an IFR inverter do not use portable panels: they are configured with HC660 rigid panels in series.

Do they work on cloudy days?

Yes, but much less: with thin clouds, 20–40% of production; with an overcast sky, 5–15%. That’s why it’s best to have a panel that’s slightly larger than your exact consumption and a charging station with enough capacity for two nights. The station’s MPPT charger makes the most of whatever sunlight is available without you having to do anything.

Can I connect two boards at the same time?

Yes. The document on combinations of Genergy indicates series —which increases the load— for most stations: 1 to 3 SUN200s or 1 to 2 SUN300s in the C and E models, and up to 7 SUN200s or 4 SUN300s in the PRO-S models. The parallel —which adds to the current— is for the small ones: two SUN100s in a GZE-0506. In both cases, you’ll need the corresponding connector, which isn’t included with the panel (part numbers 31601 and 31602), and panels of different power ratings should never be mixed. Always adhere to the maximum wattage and voltage of your station’s solar input.

Will it work with my van's battery?

Not directly. The MC4 output on the board provides 24–41 V, and the service battery is 12 V: you'd need an intermediate MPPT regulator, which SUN units don't include because they're designed for stations with a built-in regulator. Can I charge my cell phone directly on the board?

The SUN100 does: it has USB-A and USB-C ports (5/9/12 V, up to 3.5 A) on the panel itself. The SUN200 and SUN300 only have an MC4 output for the station; you charge your phone from the station.

How long does it take to charge a station?

Divide the station’s capacity by the panel’s actual power output (70–80% of the rated power in good sunlight). A 992 Wh GZE-1012 with the SUN200: about 6–7 hours of sunlight; a 3,072 Wh GZE-3036 with the SUN300: two days, or one day with two panels. When connected to the grid, the PRO-S models charge in 1.4–2.5 hours: the point of solar power is to avoid relying on the outlet, not to compete with it.

What is the difference between monocrystalline and bifacial?

All three SUN panels are monocrystalline: they offer the highest efficiency per unit area, which is important when folded size matters. The HC660 is also bifacial: its cells capture light from both sides, so when mounted on a light-colored surface or a reflective roof, it produces more power than its front-side capacity.

Can they withstand the rain?

A sudden downpour on the unfolded mat won't harm it; however, make sure the open MC4 connectors and the USB port compartment don't get wet. Dry it before folding it up, and don't store it while it's still damp. The exact protection rating is listed on each product page.

Is it worth it compared to a car charger?

Charging a station from the car's cigarette lighter provides 100–120 W, but only when the engine is running. A SUN200 provides the same amount of power without starting the engine or using gas, and a SUN300 provides three times that amount. If you drive every day, the car is enough; if you stay in the same place for two nights, the solar panel is what keeps you going.

How much does a portable solar panel cost?

The price of each model is listed on its product page. Compare models based on actual wattage and weight: two "200 W" panels can weigh 6 or 11 kg and produce different amounts of power depending on their orientation. And make sure to check the voltage at your station first: a cheap panel that doesn't charge is the most expensive one.
