What is an industrial generator, and how does it differ from a commercial one?
A professional generator is taken to the job site, runs for a few hours, and is returned to the van. An industrial generator is installed, connected to the power supply, and must be ready to start automatically at 3:00 a.m. when the grid fails, or to run eight hours a day for months on end. This changes the engine (diesel at 1,500 rpm instead of gasoline at 3,000), the alternator (rated for continuous load), the control system (a control unit that manages start-up, shutdown, alarms, and the transfer switch), and how it’s selected: based on continuous power and operating hours, not peak power.

Continuous or standby power: the factor that determines an industrial generator
Generators are rated at two different power levels, and buying the wrong one is the most costly mistake you can make in this category.
PRP · continuous power (prime)
The power the unit can continuously deliver, hour after hour, under varying loads. This is the rating for a generator used in: an off-grid warehouse, a farm, an irrigation pump, or a workshop. A GDS10 delivers 9 kVA (7.2 kW) continuously.
LTP · Standby Power
The maximum output it can provide for a limited time each year, typically as an emergency backup. This is the figure for a standby generator: it starts up when the grid fails and shuts down when power is restored. The GDS10 itself provides 10 kVA of backup power.
The Ruler
If the generator set is going to be the sole power source, size it based on PRP and operate it at 50–80% load. If it is going to serve as a backup to the grid, size it based on LTP with a margin for starting the largest motors (multiply their power by 2.5–3). kVA is the apparent power delivered by the generator set; kW is the power consumed by your equipment. For mixed commercial loads, kW ≈ kVA × 0.8.

Automatic Start-up, ATS Panel, and Commissioning
Deep Sea DSE7320 Control Unit
Across the entire GDS family. It detects a power outage, starts the generator, transfers the load, and restores power once the grid becomes stable again. Scheduled startup, via external signal, and remote communication. It is the industry standard—not proprietary electronics that only the manufacturer can repair.
Transfer panel rated from 63 to 630 A

Commissioning at the Facility
Large GDS units come with a startup service (each model has its own catalog reference): a technician inspects the installation, starts the unit under load, and leaves the control panel programmed. This is not an extra service you need to seek elsewhere.
